Fact or Fad? You Decide!

P.S. There was a report on NPR yesterday about a massive sugar beet crop failure. The summary included information about the U.S. importing sugar from around the world. I laughed and yelled at the same time (to anyone driving past me when I had my outburst; I swear I’m not crazy!). I guarantee these are GMO crops… the same GMO crops that we’re told will “save the planet.”

The truth? GMO crops consistently fail. You cannot create a superior product to Nature. She’s spent millions of years perfecting DNA.

Permaculture and the Story of Stuff

I’m in the throes of learning about Urban Gardening and closed-loop systems. My quest for next year’s edible bounty brought me to a short video you need to see, called “The Story of Stuff.”

It reminds me of my journey in life and the Mission Statement posted at the bottom of every email I send: HopeGraceAncient Wisdom.  There are very deep, personal reasons I create products and teach the topics I do:

  • I recycle as often as possible because I hope the planet can heal and am saddened by the amount of waste we create.
  • I keep my products affordable for the public without devaluing what I create, because I was Graced with an ability to help heal.
  • I believe that following the older laws of nature is a better path than the current system of healing.

Outrage

Never doubt the impact you have on future generations; your actions today determine what’s left for others. Every action has a reaction.

Please consider the importance of all creatures on this planet. Everything is significant, even if you’re unable to find it. Just because you don’t understand something doesn’t mean it’s irrelevant or insignificant.

Global warming is real… instead of complaining about erratic weather patterns and unseasonable warmth, ACT. You don’t have to be vegan or vegetarian to make a difference; start with just one day of meatless meals.

YOU MAKE A DIFFERENCE. Remember, Compassion is contagious…

Mindfulness 101

My deepest gratitude to the Thompson Free Public Library (Dover-Foxcroft) for making this talk and article possible. As Kim said when we were setting up the talk, “Seems like we all could use some mindfulness (and its benefits) now more than ever!!!!”

Allow me to give you basic tips on living mindfully and meditating.

To Detox or Not?

Most cleanses have you ingesting food, which doesn’t allow your body to burn fat. Fasting does burn fat and is a hell of a lot healthier than the Keto DIEt. After decades of hosting various cleanses, here are my observations on cleansing versus fasting. Fasting is what doctors prescribe prior to major procedures to avoid complications… they don’t ask you to cleanse. There’s a big difference between the outcome of the two.

Wreath Making 101

I believe most Mainers’ first word is “yup.”

For Downeaster’s, their first word may be “wreath” or perhaps “tips.” “Downeaster” denotes those who come from the 2 southeastern counties along our coastline of Maine, Washington and Hancock counties. Wreath-making is often a family event, and I’d guess balsam sap may very well run through their veins…

I spent almost 2 months making wreaths and like many Mainers, can now spot the difference between a bad or “Canadian wreath,” and one made by an experienced maker.

Do You Judge People by a Label?

The concept that it’s all or nothing, and you don’t make a difference unless you sacrifice it all, is naïve. It’s a broken strategy.

For those of you sitting in silence while you live a plant-based life, I applaud you. For those of you who give up animal products for one meal, one day, or more, I applaud you. You’re making a BIG difference. The world will never be the Utopia we claim to want. Humans and our environments are extremely diverse and are ever-changing. The world cannot, and should not, be vegan.
